My bucket list of experiences. (In association with Eventbite.)

Eventbite contacted me a little while ago. (I know-I was so surprised also!) In exchange for giving my blog some coverage on their social media, they asked me to create a list of experiences I cherish, in the form of a bucket list. So, for today’s post, this is exactly what I’m doing.

Here goes!

Ping pong for my birthday.

It was at Bounce in London-well, I think that’s what the restaurant was called-and most of my relatives were there, and we were just being silly. (I did get a few ping pong balls whacked at me…) Life goes so fast, and it’s often really intense, but this was the antithesis of this.

Listening to Golden Days.

The new album by Brian may and Kerry Ellis. I have yet to listen to all of this, but I already have firm favourites, such as The Panic Attack Song. There was so much excitement for me-and I felt like a kid again-in downloading it, and just walking round, playing it at home.

Teaching a relative the Presidents since Herbert Hoover.

One of the most prominent hallmarks of my version of Aspergers Syndrome is that I can become very obsessive, and some facts I can recall in great detail, as a result. (I use ‘a relative’ to be indirect, because my personal life is private, therefore separate from this ol’ blog.) I have been able to recite the Presidents since Herbet Hoover from the age of fourteen, I think. But my ASD has often served to alienate-people can be scared of me. (WHY??) But being able to teach presidential history-whilst sitting, key policy, impact, etc-has been great of me, because I can put my knowledge to use, passing it on. (Well, up, as they’re older than me, but still…..) Presidents are a love of mine.

Blogging daily.

Quite the challenge!

Seeing Emeli Sande live.

Although some things went a little bit wrong during the performance, to be asked to review her show, as a spur-of-the-moment proposal, it felt like I was ‘making it’. I had done what I had always wanted to do. And it was a great night out!

Beginning pilates.

Here’s a secret: I am neither athletic, inclined to exercise, or at all flexible. Beginning pilates has totally changed that! I go weekly, and it has helped my core muscles, as well as toning my abs just a little bit more. But I feel far more confident now! I feel better about myself, and able to walk tall, assert myself even, instead of slouching, scuttling away. If you lacked the confidence that I did, I really suggest that you give this a go.

Working with Bagleman.

What’s wrong about finding out about how Bagels are made? Not much, in my book, and I had to travel for it-all good in the end. I got to explore a part of Brighton that I didn’t even know existed also.

Reading The Summer Of Impossible Things.

I was sent this as a proof copy, but how I cried. A tour-de-force novel about time travel, bringing relatives alive, and changing times, this was affirming for me. (It was the last line of the book that got me: “Thank you for being brave”.) Rowan Coleman is brilliant. And I wish that I could write like her.

Interviewing Jemma Morgan.

Interview your blogging hero? Why not!

Getting accepted to the NTCJ.

The NTCJ is something that I have wanted to do for a long time-simply because it trains you to be a Journalist. And it’s recognised by various industry heavyweights. To be a journalist is what I have wanted to be for a long time-and getting the acceptance email was a truly happy day.

There’s still more to come in 2017; and all I have to say is, “Bring it on”.

Until tomorrow-

Lydia

My iTunes Playlist.

Since my eighteenth birthday, I have been using my new iPHONE, in order to listen to songs on the go. And to be honest it has made quite a difference; better sound quality, inclusive of album artwork, and I could browse the store for hours. Anyway, apart from digressing just a teeny bit, I wanted to show you my playlist I listen to on the way to college. It’s called ‘Feel good Songs’-because I need motivation in the morning’s, and above all, these songs make me feel happy.

Flash, Queen Rock Montreal.

For some reason, this live version of ‘Flash’ is not included on the DVD, hence why I hadn’t been aware of its existence until very recently. I love it! Although Queen perform it as a very stripped-back number, meaning it lacks some of the verses, and I think that the melody has been changed just slightly, it’s a ‘feel good’ song to me. Gotta channel some of Flash’s power, after all.

Sultans of Swing, Private Investigations.

This is an old one, this one. Dire Straits are singing about a band that they saw, way back when. But I love the fusion of sound across this song-a sort of juxtaposition of sound, a little bit of rock, etc.

Another one Bites The Dust, Queen Rock Montreal.

Because who wouldn’t want to listen to a song with a powerful, seemingly thumping, bass line, that was played at boxing matches, a long time ago? The chords make me feel powerful in this respect-in knowing that I can ostensibly stand tall, and take pride in myself. Plus, it’s Mercury ad-libbing like crazy throughout.

All Cried Out, Alf.

Alison Moyet, and a song telling a man to shove it? I’m on board, the same way I am for her love songs. (Love Letters, anyone?)

Let Me Entertain You, Queen Rock Montreal.

By this point, you’d have probably guessed that my iTUNES is a little bit limited, owing to the large influence that Queen currently have on it. (Not that it’s a bad thing!) But-although not the Robbie Williams song-this is a fast-paced, drum-fuelled song. Smashing! (Quite literally. And it gets my adrenaline going.) Because who doesn’t love a little bit of Mercury?

When I’m Alone, Live At Union Chapel.

Because who doesn’t love a good ballad?

Killer Queen/I’m In Love With My Car, Queen Rock Montreal.

Okay, so technically, this is a medley, hence why I had to put the two songs together. I LOVE how Killer Queen leads into the (incredibly raspy) version of I’m In Love With My Car. The latter track is very raw-and there’s just so much energy.

Naughty, Heavy Rotation.

This is not on the CD, and is on the digital version. I identify with the subject of the lyrics, especially the bridge: “..don’t care what the people may say, I’m going to do it my way..” (Well, something along those lines, anyway. ) I think that we should all embrace our weirdness-because that makes us us-and this is the perfect soundtrack.

Tired Of Being Blonde, Spoiled Girl.

Although this was from one of Carly Simon’s albums that was considered to be, well, a bit of a flop-and not reaching the heights of No Secrets-it’s the drum loop that I really like. And although she did not write this song, I really love the story of the lyrics-a woman leaving her husband, because he underestimates her worth, and persists in making her nothing but a sex object.

Keep Yourself Alive, Queen Rock Montreal.

And there’s an improvised jam at the beginning!

What Can We Do (Deeper Love.)

Although this is an advertising song, I really like the choruses: “I (got deeper love) x3 *ad lib*

Resurrection, A 4 App.

This is Anastacia’s first live album, and I was delighted to see that one of my favourite songs was the opener-Ressurection. I think it would be fair to say that this is about her second cancer, and surviving it. But the last part is so deep, and it just makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. If she can come back like this again, I can do anything, right?

Jailhouse Rock, Queen Rock Montreal.

This is a cover by Queen; and although the guitar can be a little bit heavy at times-it’s probably in the design of the cover-I love how Freddie Mercury sort of growls on this track. He also becomes very frustrated at the reserved Canadian audience, which makes me smile at his impertinence.

Shamless, Live At Union Chapel.

I’m with Lissie on this one; I’m tired of the magazine industry, in the sense that it is just about a women’s appearance, and doesn’t seem to always take her self worth into account. This was a rock song on the studio album, but has been formed into an acoustic version on this live album. I love it!

We Will Rock You (Fast), Queen Rock Montreal.

Not everyone’s cup of tea, but this is the concert opener, and has great energy!

Underground Army, A 4 App.

This is an Anastacia song that I’m not familar with, really, but the lyrics are so encouraging, and they seem to suggest a sort of kindness. I love it.

Don’t You Give Up On Me, Live At Union Chapel.

I sometimes feel as if people have given up on me-usually on one of those dark days, where nothing is going right. (We all have days like that, don’t we?) But this is a song that encourages me, and it makes me happy. The perfect way to finish a playlist!

What do you listen to on your playlists?

My Updated Make Up Bag…

Hello!

A little while ago I posted about my make up bag-and, to be blunt, it seemed to be overly stuffed, and quite cumbersome in size. Since then, I’ve whittled it down to just a few essentials, as you can see above. And I’m going to take you through it! (Please note: Benecos products included in this post were sent to me, in order for a review. However, in spite of the fact that they are a PR sample, I do use them!)

  • Tangle Tamer. This is essential to me, because my hair is fairly horrible. I can’t style it, and it just wraps itself up in notes. Anyway, I keep this with me to look just a little bit professional-otherwise, it would look awful!
  • Benecos Natural Eyeshadow Matt. To highlight my eyes! There’ll be a tutorial up soon…it also hides the fact that I may be tired..
  • Deodorant. Because no one willingly wishes to stink, do they?!
  • Topshop magic liner. I love eyeliner, and I think, firstly, anyone who attempts a cat flick is brave, and it virtually suits anyone. What’s not to love? Anyway, I wear it as I wish to feel positive about my eyes, which have horrible vision.
  • Gimme Brow by Benefit. To tame the unruly eyebrows!
  • The two brushes: The larger one is for applying the eyeshadow, the smaller for the lipstick. However, if I’m in a rush, or cannot be finicky about it, I just go for a swipe. Better coverage that way!
  • Lipstick by Benecos in Peach. Because my lips can become very chapped, but this colour is a nice hue, and is not to over powering. It also smells really nice.
  • Instant crush spray by Superdrug: because…yeah…
  • Wonderstruck perfume by Taylor Swift: a quick spritz of this, and I’m ready. I really love this perfume-I have some memories attached to it-and many people ask me what perfume I’m wearing, which is a good conversational starter.

What is in your make up bag?

Birthday gifts solved! Featuring Jewellery Box, Amazon Fire Stick, and more..

Birthdays. Birthdays! Don’t you just love ’em?

On a serious note, I really like shopping for gifts for people, milling over what they would like, the paper, aiming to visualise how they’d react. For today’s post, I wanted to show you a few things that I’d like to suggest could be an idea for birthday gifts. Anything marked by an * is a PR sample, but please note, I requested these, meaning that what follows is my genuine opinion.

For a girlfriend/boyfriend.

Some sentimental jewellery is what I would go with-and before anyone says, Jewellery is not just for girls. Jewellery Box* is a brand I’ve collaborated with, and I really love what they have to offer. And I could spend hours browsing their website! And they have sections for everyone, I feel. You can even personalise what you purchase.

Because just how cute is this butterfly ring?!

As a polite hint:

I love my Filofax-and my organisation would be a mess without it. But I really get bored, and more than just a bit sick and tired, of people asking me to be organised for them on their behalf. If you know anyone like this, may I suggest a Filofax? Just as a polite hint.

For the music fan:

Do I really need to say it? Divide* has already been a huge Album this year-and it looks as if there’s no stopping it. (I love ‘Shape of you’ and ‘Nancy Mulligan’.) Anyway, whether it is on Vinyl or CD, it looks set to be a classic album in years to come.

I love album artwork like this!

For a couple setting up their first home:

Maybe a subscription box? Although they aren’t for everyone, it is nice to get Post through the letter box, every once in a while. And it could be something completely unusual! Something like Cheese Posties*, Little Known Box*, etc.

For the student:

Although I had not been impressed with this-I found the set up to be confusing-I think that this would be useful for any student.  An Amazon Fire Stick* would seemingly be really useful. Imagine being away from home-and this correlates all your apps in one place! Lovely. You can have Netflix, iPlayer, etc all on the go.

For the fashionable friend:

New Look has some really cool items-and I would go for things like a pair of shoes, even a bag. You don’t have to spend so much!

For the bibliophile:

I love books! But The Summer Of Impossible Things* and How To Stop Time* are coming out soon. Having read both, and thinking highly of these two works of fiction, I highly suggest that they be in your list.

What other category or ideas do you have?

Ten things I’d never do again, or even attempt.

Good morning!

For this post, I thought I’d share ten things-because I recently turned eighteen, and could not think of the full lot-that I would probably never dare to do again, or attempt, either because they were reckless, or are too scary by perception, or just something that I do not enjoy.

  1. Go gliding, I did it once, and would probably never do it again. It was a great experience-being so high up, surfing the clouds-but it was so high. Gliders also have no engines, meaning that they seemingly depend on the wind, and currents. (What to do if there’s a problem?) I have too much of a fear to do this again.
  2. Bungee jumping. Because why would you do it? Never done it, never plan to.
  3. And on a similar note; I’ve never gone sky diving. And I really do not like the idea of falling, and being at the mercy of the elements.
  4. House parties when you know nobody. Been there, done that. I didn’t really enjoy it, to be honest-simply because it was so awkward. I’m not a typical teenager, to be honest.
  5. Climbing through a cave. I have a fear of getting stuck!
  6. I probably would go on a rollercoaster again, but it’s not something that I would do willing. And just writing that sounds really pathetic, doesn’t it? (Yeah, I can see you nodding your head, illuminated by your computer screens.) But I dislike the feeling of being upside down, seemingly suspended in mid air, and knowing that you’re about to drop. I have no desire to feel like this again.
  7. And the spinning cups at a theme park… so dizzy! Meet ya at the hook-a-duck.
  8. Poker, but competitive poker. The tension gets to me! And I can’t keep a straight face when trying to keep a poker face….never gonna work.
  9. Absailing.
  10. What would you like to see in this slot?

The British Tag

I have recently been searching the Internet for some post ideas-because doing the 365 day challenge can limit your creativity at times. I came across The British Tag over at this blog, and felt that I wanted to have a go. So, here’s today’s post! (Please be aware that I have adapted this post slightly…)

The rules:

  • Thank the Blogger who tagged you on social media and with a back link.
  • Answer the following questions!
  • Tag as many bloggers as you wish.

1. How many cups of tea do you have a day and with how many sugars?

I actually don’t drink tea-or coffee-for that matter, so I can’t really say, to be honest. I just really dislike the flavours of both, therefore I don’t really drink it.

2. What is your  favourite part of a roast dinner?
The potatoes. So good!

3. What a your favourite dunking biscuit?

Probably either a Hobnob, or a Chocolate digestive. These are so good!

4. And what about your favourite quintessentially British hobby?

In my spare time-although I’ve devoted more of it to blogging recently-I really do like to crochet, because I can manipulate the wool enough to create something tangible. To be able to create a bag out of six balls of wool is no easy feat, either.

5.And your favourite word?
Blogger, because of course!

6. What is your favourite Cockney rhyming slang?

It would probably have to be “apples and pears”-and that was because I saw it on Doctor Who as a child! (Rose gets taken over by Cassandra in the episode of New Earth…)

7. Additionally, what is your favourite sweet?

At times I have a very strong sweet tooth-and I am trying to cut back on my consumption of sugar, because it can get out of hand. However, I do like lemon sherbats, strawberry Bon bons, and flying saucers.

8. In an ideal world, what would your pub be called?

“The writers den”-a small establishment, tucked away in Brighton’s lanes, stylised as a fancy pub and library in one.

9. And who is your favourite British person?

Tom Hiddleston is English, isn’t he?
10. When shopping, what is your favourite shop?

It depends on what I’m looking for, and what sort of mood I’m in. I dislike shopping for clothes-I’m not your stereotypical female-but as do quite like Paperchase, and I was sad to see HMV shit down in Brighton recently.

11.Bristish pop song that always seems to be stuck in your head?

I go for rock; you’re my best friend by Queen.

12.Thoughts about Marmite?

Would not touch it with a pole.

13.What are your favourite British things?

The beaches, rock, the insistence that we make tea correctly, pubs, our political system, the Queen, and wool.

I tag Kimberly Jessica, Country Katie UK, and This Stuff Is Golden.
