The British Tag

I have recently been searching the Internet for some post ideas-because doing the 365 day challenge can limit your creativity at times. I came across The British Tag over at this blog, and felt that I wanted to have a go. So, here’s today’s post! (Please be aware that I have adapted this post slightly…)

The rules:

  • Thank the Blogger who tagged you on social media and with a back link.
  • Answer the following questions!
  • Tag as many bloggers as you wish.

1. How many cups of tea do you have a day and with how many sugars?

I actually don’t drink tea-or coffee-for that matter, so I can’t really say, to be honest. I just really dislike the flavours of both, therefore I don’t really drink it.

2. What is your  favourite part of a roast dinner?
The potatoes. So good!

3. What a your favourite dunking biscuit?

Probably either a Hobnob, or a Chocolate digestive. These are so good!

4. And what about your favourite quintessentially British hobby?

In my spare time-although I’ve devoted more of it to blogging recently-I really do like to crochet, because I can manipulate the wool enough to create something tangible. To be able to create a bag out of six balls of wool is no easy feat, either.

5.And your favourite word?
Blogger, because of course!

6. What is your favourite Cockney rhyming slang?

It would probably have to be “apples and pears”-and that was because I saw it on Doctor Who as a child! (Rose gets taken over by Cassandra in the episode of New Earth…)

7. Additionally, what is your favourite sweet?

At times I have a very strong sweet tooth-and I am trying to cut back on my consumption of sugar, because it can get out of hand. However, I do like lemon sherbats, strawberry Bon bons, and flying saucers.

8. In an ideal world, what would your pub be called?

“The writers den”-a small establishment, tucked away in Brighton’s lanes, stylised as a fancy pub and library in one.

9. And who is your favourite British person?

Tom Hiddleston is English, isn’t he?
10. When shopping, what is your favourite shop?

It depends on what I’m looking for, and what sort of mood I’m in. I dislike shopping for clothes-I’m not your stereotypical female-but as do quite like Paperchase, and I was sad to see HMV shit down in Brighton recently.

11.Bristish pop song that always seems to be stuck in your head?

I go for rock; you’re my best friend by Queen.

12.Thoughts about Marmite?

Would not touch it with a pole.

13.What are your favourite British things?

The beaches, rock, the insistence that we make tea correctly, pubs, our political system, the Queen, and wool.

I tag Kimberly Jessica, Country Katie UK, and This Stuff Is Golden.

I am pleased to announce that I am working with Basic Beauty Tools. If you go to their website via this link , and order the Spongedry, you can get a free foundation blender by adding under ‘Note To Seller’ your colour code: LYDIAPINK for pink, LYDIAPURPLE for purple, and LYDIABLACK for black.

This time next year tag

This is a post that I’ve seen floating around for a while-you can see the exact post here. So, here’s my version:

Firstly, you have to thank the person who tagged you-so, maybe over social media. Next, write and set yourself  goals for next year, as well as how you intend to achieve them. Tag five or more people. Then, once a year has passed, write about how you achieved these goals. Simple, right? Here goes…

Goals for the next year:

  • Pass the NTCJ diploma course, with a decent standard of grades achieved. (This is something I have been wanting to undertake for a while-and I would love to achieve something good from it.
  • Keep blogging, and start to earn from it!
  • Have at least one story-well, copy-published in a magazine. Because this is something that I have tried to achieve for a while.
  • Get paid for articles!
  • Have at least one great interview, with somebody who is really current-I’m thinking Ed Sheeran, Emeli Sande, Amy MacDonald, Stormzy, Bones, and people in that vein. Because ambition isn’t a crime, right?
  • Start to write my book!

I tag Lauren at This Stuff Is Golden, Katie at CountryKatieUk, Kimberly Jessica at Kimberly Jessica, Faz from Like A Parisienne, and Freya from Freya’s Nook. Be sure to comment when you write your own!

Blogger Recognition Award

I was nominated by Chloe-Rose at What Chloe Wrote for this post; click here to see her version of this post. Here’s my version, and thank you to Chloe-Rose for nominating me!

The Rules:

  • Thank the blogger publicly-on social media-as well as with a link in your post.
  • Give a brief story about how you started your blog.
  • Tag fifteen bloggers, and link to them, as well as tag them, letting them know they have been nominated.

Here goes!

Why did I start my blog?

There wasn’t a particular reason for why I wanted to start this blog, to be honest. I’d seen an editorial in Shout Magazine, where to pre-teen me, everything looked really glamorous. I kept the ‘How To Blog’ guide for a few years, then I asked my parents if I could blog. (I was very young, after all!) I think it was also because I wished to write-when I started to become more interested in Journalism as a career-as to why I began to blog.

I nominate:

Thirteen Personal Questions Tag.

A little while ago, over at Kimberly Jessica’s blog, she posted the thirteen personal questions tag. Now, I do love a tag post-plus it’s a way to be more interactive as a blogger-so I had to borrow the idea. (All credit goes to Kimberly Jessica-you can click here to read the original blog post.)

  •  What do you order at Starbucks?

I don’t drink tea or coffee, therefore my regular order-it would rarely deviate-was a Strawberry and Cream Frappe, no cream on top. (I dislike cream.) I’d also occasionally order a Toastie to go with it!

  • What’s the one thing in your wardrobe that you could not live without?

There’s a blue wraparound dress that I received for Christmas two years ago; it’s my favorite thing to wear-particularly for occasions I need to dress up for-and because it allows me to feel confident. ( Coupled with a pair of earrings I have in the shape of the Effiel Tower!)

  •  What’s the one thing most people do not know about you?

This is a really tricky question, and I can’t share too much-after all, this is the Internet. Probably that one of my favourite songs is Left Outside Alone…

  •  What’s the one thing you want to do before you die?

Get married-possibly in Amsterdam!

  • What’s theone food you cannot live without?

In terms of food, there’s a lot I don’t eat-I know my favorite things, and I rarely try anything new. (Yes, it’s a bad habit, I know!) Probably: Macorani Cheese, Lasagne, Spag Bol, Makteaser cake, and Skittles. (How healthy!)

  • What’s the one quote you live your life by?

“Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for you country”-John F. Kennedy. (I couldn’t think of any others!)

  • What is it that you like/dislike about the youtube/blogging community?

I’m not very familiar with YouTube, so my commentary and opinions may be ill-informed about this matter; to me, the whole sphere seems too dominated by petty drama! (Hence why I don’t get involved with it. Also, because I hate talking on Camera.) As a Blogger, I have really begun to dislike Spammers. They comment a lot, and have begun to email my blog address. Why!? But I love how you lot have been so nice to me!

  • What’s the number one song on your Ipod or Itunes?

I don’t use either-sorry!

  • What type of style would you describe yourself as having?

Business woman crossed with a student. In other words; thrown together!

  • What is your favourite number?

Eighteen!

  • Name 2 hobbies.

Blogging is my main Hobby I guess, but it’s something that I would like to potentially explore as a profession. But I also love to compose poetry, as well as read.

  • What are two of your pet peeves?

I dislike it when on a train, people reserve seats with bags. Seriously!?! There was one such train ride where a mother with two young children had to stand, because somebody had done this-and when their friend was stations away! I also really dislike jokes about my surname; I’ve  heard everything that is apparently funny to do with Wilkins.

  • And what is your guilty pleasure?

Peacan and praline Haagen Daz.

I tag: Katie at CountryKatieUk, Natalie at Youralmostalice, Lauren at This Stuff Is Golden, Freya at Freya’s Nook, and Liza Kallas at Sugar Loaf Dreamer.

The Blogger Tag.

Recently, I saw this tag circulating on Twitter, and thought that I just had to have a go. (Courtesy of this post here.) Now, I do love a good tag post. So I just had to have a go. The questions have been slightly adapted for purposes of language.

1. When and why did you start blogging?

I started way back in July of 2012; I had collected an old clipping from Shout Magazine, featuring Cat from (what was called at the time) Life Through A Cat’s Eyes. Blogging to me looked really cool! And for a sometimes lonely preteen, it just seemed to be a way in to something…plus the benefit of writing! I’ve always loved writing.

2.  Where does your blog name come from?
Two people; Sylvia Plath and Stacey Duguid, the ELLE Columnist from a few years ago. Plath had her internship in 1953 at Mademoiselle Magazine in New York; the original magazine that was literary, full of style, and seemed to suggest a career. Duguid was a very stylish columnist. And I wanted to blend the two together. We can be like the women from Mademoiselle Magazine, and still have substance! (The ‘women’ part of the URL was so I could have Mademoiselle, as it was otherwise taken at the time.)

3. What do you blog about and why?
Lifestyle! Because I can write about whatever I wish, without the constraints of one category.

4. What was the first blog you started following?
What was then called Life Through A Cats Eyes.

5. What is your favorite thing about blogging?
Apart from the writing-which is something I get enormous satisfaction from-my favorite thing would have to be the people. Bloggers are just so nice!

6. What do you find is the toughest thing about blogging?
Keeping organised. As somebody attempting  aiming to carry out the 365 day challenge, I have to post daily. And obviously, this is not an easy feat to accomplish! You have to write your content, take/edit photos, organise guest posts, ramp up your hits via social media, pitch to brands, schedule posts on time, and keep coming up with ideas. Then it starts all over again..

7. What is your biggest blogging pet peeve?
Not knowing the difference between a blog and a blog post.

8. What camera and photo editing software do you use?

I either use the camera on my phone or my iPAD. But I have a photo editing app downloaded on my iPAD-I forget the name, but it may just be Photo Editor. And it’s so simple, quick, and easy to use-plus my photos look better.

9. What would be your dream campaign?

To work with Dior or Glamour Magazine UK.

10. How do you come up with posts ideas?
Sometimes I take inspiration from Twitter-posts I’ve enjoyed, so I wrote my own version. (If I do, I link back to the post that inspired me first of all). Secondly, my brain! Ha ha. But in all seriousness, I do take note of the news-I have to as an aspiring journalist-which comes with my opinions, etc. (Then I write!) It may also be what I enjoy-my Filofax, books, etc. Additionally, I also work with brands-I pitch, and write my review. Lastlly, I also coordinate guest posts.

11. How and what keeps you motivated to keep writing?
I keep motivated by sometimes saving drafts, and not automatically scheduling them. That way, if I have a lack of ideas, I can still keep going!

12. What are your blogging goals for 2018?
Have a break! Posting daily is hard work-baring in mind I don’t make any profit-and my ideas do have a limit.

13. What advice would you pass on to new bloggers?
Whatever anyone says, does, thinks, etc, don’t stop. Blogging is a great thing to do; it may take you a while to find your ‘voice’, but it’s so worthwhile when you do.

I tag Kimberly Jessica, Country Katie UK, This Stuff Is Golden, and anyone else who wishes to take part!

The Unpopular Book Opinions Tag.

So, some way or another, I was lead to The Diary Of A Bookish Girl. (Click here to view.) And I read this excellent book tag, that I thought I would love to also write myself!

But first of all, I Tag the following bloggers. (Basically meaning that because their name is included here, they could write up and post this tag.)

  • Katie at Country Katie UK.
  • Lauren at This Stuff Is Golden.
  • Kimberly Jessica at Kimberly Jessica.
  • Freya at Freya’s Nook.
  • Lizabeth Westwood at Lizabeth Westwood.

Here are my answers to the set questions:

What is a popular book or series that you didn’t like?

I just could not seem to get on board with The Hunger Games. At best, I don’t really like fantasy, ultimately preferring a thriller or a book about issues with a twist-try Jodi Picoult-because this genre seems more legitimate, in the aims that the characters wish to achieve. Plus, it was teenagers just fighting to the death…nothing fun about that!

A book or series that you love but everyone seems to hate?

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. Whenever I’m reading this book, someone will spot the cover, raise the eyebrows, and make an alarmed noise. It’s a shame really-because what Plath did to herself seems to have overshadowed her work. I like this in particular because there is some depth to the character, and it shows how one depressive mind had worked.

A love triangle where the main character ended up with the person you did not want them to end up with, or an OTP you didn’t like?

I’m not sure what an OTP is 😂 And I haven’t really got an answer for this question either.

A popular genre you hardly reach for?

As I’ve already said, Fantasy and I just do not get on. Which is odd, in terms of films; a thriller can see a human given super strength-aim looking at you, Bond – but that’s a thriller. Which I adore. But the fantasy genre in films seems to be taken to such an extreme at times.

A popular or beloved character that you did not like?

Bridget Jones from The Bridget Jones series.

A popular book trope that you are tired of seeing?

Gotta be Twighlight! Again, with this fantasy thing…😁 But it just seemed to be a little warped in intention, for some of the characters. Way too gory for me!

A popular series that you have no interest in reading?

See above!

What film did you prefer to the book?

I haven’t really an answer…

Please bear in mind that these are just my opinions, and are of no discredit to the books themselves. Keep on enjoying these books, because they have a kinship with their fan bases!
